Release #14 – To the Sky

Jamecia Bennett is an International Recording Artist, Drummer, Producer, Songwriter & the new lead singer of the 3x Grammy Award-winning Sounds of Blackness, daughter of the incomparable Ann Nesby and mother of American Idol finalist Paris Bennett.

Jamecia collaborates with Canadian Neu-Berliner DJ and House music producer Dickey Doo to revisit a personal song written together with Dutch export based in Florida, Phil van de Werken aka Phuzz.

Built around the powerful performance from the Queen of Hypernatual Berlin, Jamecia Bennett together with the classic Gospel voices of Sound of Blackness, these vocal tones bring you up to rise above the pain. ‘To The Sky’ is a call out of support to those who are in a dark moment in their lives, a reminder that we all should keep an eye on our loved ones at all times, even in the public eye most can hide their inner demons but away from the scene be truly in trouble and worried about the future.

Just like Jamecia says about the writing of the song, “This song is about oppression and mental illness, abuse, and PTSD not allowing any of these things get us down. We want people to be encouraged I want people to know that they’re gonna be all right no matter what the situation is if they keep their head to the sky and just walk, walk your way through adversity, walk your way through mental anguish, I want people to know how beautiful they are, I want them to know that they’re going to be OK.

In the loving memory of Jon White (Rest in Power)

To The Sky (Dickey Doo’s Disco Bomb Radio Edit) & To The Sky (Dickey Doo’s Disco Bomb)

On first hearing Dickey’s straight up no chaser bomb of a Re-tweak, you are taken to a time when the Ministry of Sound was still THE club in the UK. You can imagine Joey Negro dropping this peak time, this ain’t your usual fluffy Vocal House, this comes fully stacked with S.O.U.L. no stop to help you reach your clouds.

To The Sky (Dickey Doo’s Walking Dub)

Dickeys Walking Dub is a homage to Ballroom culture, Werking the Runway and being fierce! Big chunky beats, a super phat bassline, crowd chants, some hey girls thrown in for good measure equals a dance floor voguing battle-ready dub for the children! Pure heat.

To The Sky (Phuzz’s Space Organ Mix)

Miami based producer Phuzz brings in sounds reminiscent of fellow Miami based producers Murk and Danny Tenaglia. Darker in tone, a tribal beat and big bass meet swirling psychedelic organs and the light of the gospel-inspired vocals.

To The Sky (Phuzzed Up Shine Mix)

The second remix from Phuzz keeps the tribal elements and darker tones while adding some old school keyboard stabs. More of a vocal dub this is definitely more of a sweaty late-night big room remix.

To The Sky (Martyn Ware & Tom Gillieron Remix)

No words are needed to explain Martyn’s unique place in history at the birth of New Wave, on this mix, he teams up with his Studio partner Tom from ‘Delusions of Grandeur’ fame. They take the originality of Dickey’s 2021 re-tweak to come up with a peak time full vocal Nu-House banger which will fit onto any Glitterbox dancefloor with ease.
